Scott's NICU Story

Jun 6, 2019
Image of Scott Scott, who spent the first three weeks of his life at Sierra Vista, returned as an adult, working as an emergency medical technician in Sierra’s emergency room. The 27-year-old is about to get married and go to Yale. Sierra Vista’s NICU is celebrating 30 years of miracles like this one.

Mom: “Scott, my son, is 27 now and it’s hard to believe he did start out at three pounds 11 ounces here at Sierra Vista and now a full grown man about to get married and head off to Yale.”

Scott: “I’m Scott. I am an EMT at Sierra Vista here in the ER and it’s just a really cool feeling to be able to know I spent the first three weeks of my life here in the NICU and to get to work here and give back to this community has just been a wonderful experience.”

Mom: “Scott was in the NICU for three weeks, so he was born on January 24th in the evening and we got to take him home on Valentine’s day. The best valentine I ever got was to take my baby home. I think one of the nurses that took care of Scott 27 years ago is still here.”

Scott: “I actually ran into her in the ER, so we gave each other a hug. It was just a really cool experience.”

Mom: “I was really glad that my baby was born in a hospital that had a NICU and here. Not having to be transported up to San Francisco or down to Los Angeles, but actually right here at home.”
