Art Exhibit at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Helping Raise Awareness of Mental Health
Oct 11, 2018Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, in partnership with Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA), is helping shine the spotlight on mental health and the struggles and triumphs that come along with it through an art exhibit at the hospital.
This community art show is a celebration of living mentally well. The exhibit offers people experiencing mental illness a way to express themselves and provides a venue to share art, feelings and thoughts with the public. The exhibit includes the entire mental health community: those in recovery, their family and friends, service providers and more.
One in four American adults live with a mental health condition, yet few seek the help they need due to stigma. The goal of this exhibit is to help the community see that people should not be defined in terms of their illness but by their strength, gifts and by the contributions they make to society.
Approximately two-dozen pieces of artwork will be on display in the main throughway at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center located at 1010 Murray Avenue in San Luis Obispo starting Oct. 16, 2018, and will remain in place through November.
A reception will be held on Oct. 16 from 4-6 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to patients and visitors at Sierra Vista. Several artists will also be on hand to discuss their pieces. Members of the media are welcome.
