Twin Cities Birth & Baby Center Hosting Birth & Family Fair
Sep 27, 2018
Whether you are a party of five or just starting to think about your first baby, join Twin Cities Community Hospital for a day of family fun at the upcoming Twin Cities Birth & Family Fair. We are hoping to bring together the local birthing community and provide new and expecting families with the resources they need to be prepared. Guests will find a one-stop-shop for all things baby and family: nursing nook, sleep training, car seat checks, baby CPR, tours of the birth center and our brand new Tranquility Terrace, kids play area, petting zoo, raffles and more. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet local professionals who can help navigate the journeys of pregnancy and parenting: physicians, doulas, midwives, massage therapists, photographers, lactation consultants and childbirth educators. Other local resources and businesses will also be available to mothers and growing families.
In partnership with the Central Coast Breastfeeding Coalition, the Birth & Family Fair will also feature a donor breastmilk drive. Donations will benefit newborns who may be receiving a little extra care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Participants may get screened to become a donor or come prepared to donate their properly stored frozen breast milk.
Breast milk is important for all babies, especially premature babies, and nothing else provides the same benefits. In addition to nutrition, it supports the baby’s developing immune system and provides the baby with protection against infections. Because of its health benefits, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the use of human milk for all preterm infants, whether mother’s own milk or pasteurized donor human milk when mother’s own milk is unavailable.
Donation Process:
Please bring all of your excess breast milk with you when you come to the Donor Breastmilk Drive. The breast milk must be frozen, less than 6 months old, and stored in sealed breast milk bags or containers. When you arrive you will undergo a quick screening process and a small blood test will be completed at no charge to you.
As we have all heard before, it takes a village to raise a child. Twin Cities Community Hospital is giving you the opportunity to meet your village at its Birth & Family Fair on Saturday, Oct. 6. When you leave the event, you can rest easy knowing you have all the tools you need to be prepared.
Learn what local resources are available to you as you prepare to grow your family: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Twin Cities Community Hospital at 1100 Las Tablas Road in Templeton.
