New Tenet Health Central Coast Affiliation with UCSFMay 26, 2021
Dear fellow community members and colleagues,
I am thrilled to let you know about our new, unique affiliation with the University of California, San Francisco and UCSF Health that provides an even stronger network of neurosurgical and spine care services on the Central Coast. By combining UCSF’s nationally-recognized expertise with advanced technology that we have here at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, we have created a new level of care for our community.
The neurosurgical affiliation with UCSF Health – UCSF Medical Center is recognized by U.S. News & World Report to be among the top two adult neurosurgery hospitals in the country and best on the West Coast – further elevates Tenet Health Central Coast’s ability to provide state-of-the-art triage and care to any patient in San Luis Obispo County.
This means neurosurgeons at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center have around-the-clock access with UCSF Health neurosurgical providers to discuss any neurosurgical patient at Sierra Vista who could benefit from more complex care at UCSF. This includes real-time consultations from neurosurgeons and experts.
By having this combination of innovative technology and expertise, our community has greater access to nationally-respected care right here on the Central Coast. Should a patient need to be transferred, the continuum of care between our two organizations helps ensure that the patient’s clinical pathway will keep them connected to their surgeons and specialists regardless of which facility they may require.
As an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center, a Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery and the only designated trauma center in San Luis Obispo County, Sierra Vista is an ideal partner for UCSF on the Central Coast. Moreover, Sierra Vista has state-of-the-art technology, such as advanced surgical microscopes with technology that allows Sierra Vista Neurosurgeons to fluoresce tumors and vascular blood flow in real time, which allows the surgeon to resect a greater portion of brain tumor cells and perform other advanced neurosurgical procedures. This technology is the first in San Luis Obispo County.
This relationship is more than expanding access to expertise with UCSF; we are looking to introduce new programs and services locally in direct support of our community and its needs. Indeed, we believe this affiliation will have a tremendous, positive impact on our Central Coast community.
The timing of this affiliation could not be more appropriate as May is National Stroke Awareness Month. According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is a leading cause of disability and the No. 5 cause of death in the U.S. Every second counts and being prepared is key. At Tenet Health Central Coast, we are prepared to take care of you with top physicians both here and at UCSF, along with state-of-the-art technology to assist them.
We hope you never need this elite level of care, but rest assured it is here for you and your loved ones, just in case.
